Garden Pub Club, Daylesford Edition with The Diggers Club + Gardenstead
Date: Second Tuesday of every month
Time: 5.30 - 7.30pm
Location: Beer garden, Daylesford Hotel, 2 Burke Square, Daylesford (balcony if the weather turns)
Be part of the first Gardenstead + The Diggers Club Garden Pub Club
Most of us garden alone. We talk to the plants, swear at the snails, and rarely get to say "look what happened" to anyone who understands what it took.
So I am starting a gardening club that meets in the pub in collaboration with The Diggers Club and Gardenstead.
On the second Tuesday of every month the beer garden of the Daylesford Hotel belongs to gardeners (newbies, wannabes or old hands - all welcome!).
Bring a cutting, a handful of seeds, surplus produce, flowers, a jar of something you made, or a plant you cannot name. Bring a success, a failure or a question to share. Or bring nothing at all and just come. Gathering in the name of shared garden interests is the goal.
Each night I will open with what is happening in local gardens this month and you will take home a job list for the month ahead. A guest who grows things will share something. Anyone who wants to can share a win, a disaster or a question. There’s drink and talk gardens until the pub needs its beer garden back. It’s also burger night if you feel like hanging around afterwards!
It is free. Always the same Tuesday, and the more the merrier!
We are doing this with The Diggers Club and Gardenstead, and I could not be happier about the company.
First night, Tuesday 10 November. Our guest is Julian Blackhurst, Head of Gardens at The Diggers Club and a Lyonville local, on the plants he grows together and why. We also have one job for the first night: naming the club. Bring your best idea. The winning name earns a Diggers Seedling membership.
Each Garden Pub Club night includes:
A swap table for cuttings, seeds, seedlings, surplus produce, flowers, preserves and mystery plants.
What is happening in local gardens this month, from Natasha, and the job list for the month ahead to take home.
A guest grower with knowledge of this region's soils and seasons.
An open mic for a success, a failure or a question each. Listening is fine too.
A quick round of plant bingo, with seeds from The Diggers Club for the winner.
An hour to talk gardens with people who get the same frosts you do. Order from the bar by QR code; the kitchen is open until 8.30pm for Burger Night.
Who this is for: Anyone around Daylesford who grows things or wants to start. Beginners, renters with 3 pots, people with 2 acres, and people who have killed everything so far. No experience needed, no membership needed, nothing to buy.
Good to know: Nothing is sold at the club. Swap, give, take. If it rains we move to the hotel balcony at the same time. If you can no longer come, reply to your confirmation email so the hotel can give your chair to someone else.
About the Daylesford Hotel: The Daylesford Hotel sits at the heart of town on Burke Square and has been a local institution for generations. The original wooden pub was built in the 1880s and rebuilt in brick in 1913, and today it keeps a calendar of live music and community events alongside its pub kitchen. The hotel has given the Garden Pub Club its beer garden every second Tuesday. Buy a drink and if it suits you eat there too. We’re super grateful for thw support of the Daylesford Hotel so if you can why not share the love!
About The Diggers Club: The Diggers Club has been growing the good stuff for nearly 50 years. Founded in 1978 by Clive and Penny Blazey, it began as a seed catalogue and grew into Australia's home of heirloom seeds, rare plants and gardening education, with gardens at Heronswood on the Mornington Peninsula and The Garden of St Erth near Blackwood. Diggers is a social enterprise: every profit goes to The Diggers Foundation to keep rare seeds alive for the gardeners who come after us. If you grow something around here that has a story, Diggers would love to hear about it.
About Gardenstead: Gardenstead is a gardening community that connects people who grow, design, tend and live with plants, through an app with members in 125 countries, 8 Facebook groups and a programme of in-person Gatherings across Australia. The Garden Pub Club is Gardenstead's first pub club, and the Garden Pub Club group in the Gardenstead app is where the job list and guest announcements live between nights. Gardenstead, the place to grow.
About Natasha: Natasha Morgan is a local and lifelong gardener, an award-winning landscape architect, educator and author of The Productive Garden Companion (Murdoch Books, 2026). She has worked on some of Australia's most significant public realm projects, including managing the design and construction of The Australian Garden at the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne, and taught landscape architecture at RMIT and Melbourne Universities for over 12 years.
In 2014 Natasha made a tree change with a purpose, creating the 5 acre property,Oak and Monkey Puzzle in Spargo Creek. Today she continues her design and garden journey at Little Cottage on a Hill, a 515 square metre site on Wombat Hill, Daylesford, where she distils large-scale principles into a smaller, highly considered space that supports growing, gathering and seasonal living.
Natasha shares her work through workshops, public speaking and creative collaborations, and is the Community Manager of Gardenstead. She hosts the Garden Pub Club.
A note on booking: The Garden Pub Club is free and there is nothing to refund. We ask for an RSVP so the Daylesford Hotel can look after everyone who comes. If your plans change, let us know by replying to your confirmation email. If we ever need to move or cancel a night, we will email everyone who has RSVP'd as soon as we know.
