Scheduled to run over Easter, Josh Bowes will share his passion for drystone huts and barns in a 4 day intensive master class, with the completion of a small building that could be used as a potting shed, smokehouse or vernacular shelter.

Josh has been scouring the countryside for inspiration and along with architect trained Natasha Morgan they have designed a drystone hut fitting of the Central Highlands vernacular architecture.

Intensive master class includes:

  • A professional stone masonry tool kit
  • Book on drystone masonry
  • Notes
  • House baked morning tea, refreshments and sumptuous 2 course Kitchen Garden lunch each day

Oak and Monkey Puzzle workshops will include freshly baked morning tea, plentiful snacks, a sumptuous 2 course garden lunch picked fresh from the estate kitchen garden and local seasonal produce – such as slow cooked Jonai Meatsmiths pork, garden greens and salads,  homemade sourdough bread and panna cotta with vanilla poached fruit, all made by Natasha Morgan.

About Josh Bowes:

Josh Bowes @drystonejackson is an artist, sculptor, stonemason and drystone waller of some 15 years experience. Taught by his grandfather, Josh is of English farming peerage, where drystone masonry was simply a skill farmers ‘had’. As a result, Josh feels that stone is in his blood, and to this end he is passionately fixated on his craft.

“People say it's like a jigsaw puzzle, but it's a puzzle where the pieces weren't designed to fit - it's about making sense of the chaos and the abstract. Following a hierarchy of process, I work to create a vibration, a resonance and chemistry between the pieces”. ~ JB.

Over Easter Josh Bowes will be leading an intensive master class to be held at Oak and Monkey Puzzle, Spargo Creek, Victoria, on the art of drystone huts and structures - imparting his knowledge and passion for this beautiful skill.
